These Licensing Terms explain how NGSL English resources may be used. A product page, order confirmation, or written agreement may grant additional or different rights. If specific written terms conflict with this general page, the specific terms apply.
Definitions
- Resource means a reading, worksheet, exercise, audio file, teacher material, downloadable file, or other content supplied by NGSL English.
- Licensed user means the individual learner, named teacher, or organization identified by the purchase or written agreement.
- Student means a person currently taught by a licensed teacher or covered by an institutional license.
- Secure digital classroom means an access-controlled learning platform or private class area limited to the licensed teacher and authorized students.
Ownership
Purchasing or downloading a resource grants permission to use it; it does not transfer copyright or ownership. Unless otherwise stated, NGSL English retains rights in its original readings, exercises, layouts, audio, compilations, and other materials. NGSL English does not claim ownership of the New General Service List itself or of third-party names, word lists, trademarks, and materials, which remain subject to their respective rights and licenses.
Personal learner license
A personal license permits one individual learner to download, store, print, and use the resource for personal study. It does not permit sharing files, posting them online, distributing copies to a class, or using the resource as part of a paid service.
Individual teacher license
An individual teacher license permits one named teacher to use the resource with students they personally teach. Unless the product states otherwise, the teacher may display the resource in lessons and provide printed copies or secure digital copies to currently enrolled students for their educational use. Files must not be shared with other teachers, departments, schools, or organizations.
Classroom and student copies
Student copies must be limited to the licensed class and distributed through a secure digital classroom or directly to students where practical. Copies may contain only what is reasonably needed for the lesson or assignment. Students may retain completed work for personal study but may not repost or redistribute blank or completed resources. Public upload to an unrestricted website, public drive, social platform, marketplace, or open repository is prohibited.
Department and institutional licenses
Use by multiple teachers, a department, school, language center, company, library, or other organization requires a department or institutional license. The permitted number of teachers, students, locations, access method, and license duration will be stated in the quote, order, or written agreement.
License duration
Unless a product page or written agreement states otherwise, a one-time personal or individual teacher license is perpetual for the licensed user. Subscription, time-limited, department, and institutional licenses continue only for the period stated in the applicable order or agreement.
Permitted adaptations and accessibility
If a resource is supplied in an editable format, a licensed teacher may make limited changes for their authorized students, such as adding instructions, removing questions, adjusting spacing, or adding local notes. A licensed user may also make reasonable accessibility adaptations needed to use the resource, provided the adapted material remains within the licensed group and is not sold or publicly distributed. Modified versions remain subject to the original license and must not be represented as an official NGSL English edition.
Uses requiring written permission
- Resale, sublicensing, or inclusion in another commercial product.
- Publication in a textbook, public website, application, course platform, database, or AI-training dataset.
- Translation or adaptation for public distribution.
- Removal of copyright, attribution, watermark, or license notices.
- Sharing source or editable files outside the licensed users.
- Using substantial protected content to develop a competing resource collection.
Free website content
You may link to public NGSL English pages. Short quotations may be used with clear attribution where permitted by law. Reproducing a complete reading, exercise, page, or substantial collection requires permission unless the page expressly provides a separate reusable license.
Refunds, chargebacks, and termination
A refund, reversed payment, or successful chargeback ends the corresponding license unless NGSL English confirms otherwise in writing. A material license violation may also result in termination. When a license ends, unauthorized copies must be removed and further use or distribution must stop. Ordinary completed student work may be retained where permitted by the applicable license and law.
